I wasn’t trying to be special.
Most people would have looked and moved on.
Too weird. Too “funny-looking.”
But then… they saw me.
Not just my underbite.
Not just my quirky little smile.
They saw me.
And something amazing happened:
They didn’t just stop scrolling—they chose me.
In one moment, I went from “the goofy dog with the crooked teeth” to Bonnie, the heart-stealer, the ride-or-die, the family member.
Now I have soft beds, belly rubs on demand, and more love than I know what to do with. But most importantly? I have someone who looked past what made me “different” and saw what made me perfect for them.
So yeah…this one picture?
Changed everything.
I needed a ride—24 hours away. I could tell they weren’t sure, but they didn’t care. They didn’t see a dog with a “flaw,” they saw me—a fighter, with a heart as big as my goofy grin. They saw that I was meant for more. So, they made the decision. They hit the road, for me.
24 hours. Two tired people, a full tank of gas, and one empty crate in the back that I swear smelled like hope. I didn’t know what to expect, but when I saw them pull up, my tail just couldn’t stop wagging. And when they saw my underbite, they didn’t cringe or judge. They smiled. It was the most beautiful smile I’ve ever seen.
They took me home, and it didn’t take long before I knew: this was it. I wasn’t just any dog. I was Bonnie Mae, and I was going to make them proud.
Today, I’m not just the goofy girl with the crooked smile. I’m a hunter. I’m learning to track, retrieve, and run with the best of them. I’ve got big dreams of earning hunt titles, and I won’t stop until I prove that being different doesn’t mean being less. In fact, it just makes me even more special.
I’m Bonnie Mae, and every dog deserves a chance to be someone’s “yes.” I’m living proof.
